MUD Game is a type of online video game genre that involves massive numbers of players in real-time interactions. This is different from the current gaming culture, which has more emphasis on gameplay and graphics than gameplay. Games like World of Warcraft owe much to the MUD roots that it had from games such as MUD. Also, MUDs may have become popular due to their lack of graphics. Graphics are not necessary because the goal of MUDs is to simulate a virtual world that players can use their imagination for instead of viewing graphics that tell them exactly what something looks like, but rather allow the player to imagine it however they wish.
Some of the most famous people introduced to online gaming through MUDs are John Carmack and Michael Abrash. These two programmers later created the trendy video game: Quake.
How Is It Played?
MUD games are typically played in a terminal or DOS prompt or via telnet. Players connect to the MUD server and create an account, which is needed to save the player’s progress in the game and any purchased items. After logging in, you begin exploring and fighting monsters and leveling up your character, just like in other online games.
As you play the game, there are monsters and other players to fight to gain experience points. You kill these monsters or find items worldwide that will allow you to level up your character’s stats, such as strength, intelligence, dexterity, constitution, etc. After leveling up enough, you can fight stronger monsters that you will gain more experience points off until eventually leveling up to the highest level.
In conclusion, MUD games are a great way to gain the same experience that you would in regular MMORPGs, but with no graphics and more of a sense of adventure and imagination.
