Are Mobile Games the Future of Video Games?
When most people think of the term video game, most people imagine people either playing on their consoles or laptops. A platform that is usually not seen as a source for video games is the ones played on our phones and tablets. Indeed, one does not need the use of a controller or a keyboard to play their games, rather they can use a touch screen as well. The grand question is, are mobile games the way of the future?
This being, not a simple yes or no answer, let us take a look at the statistics for this particular sector of the gaming industry. According to mmaglobal.com, the majority of mobile gamers are women. Breaking down gamers into age groups, 44% are between the ages of 16-34, 44% between 35-54, and the remaining 12% are between 55-64. That being said, it is no longer the myth that video games should only be marketed towards the younger generations. Now that there have been one or two generations that have grown up on video games, the market will have to shift its strategies.
In terms of games that people play on their phones, there is still a bit of catching up to do. Currently, there are around three billion games that play on consoles and PCs as opposed to around 2 billion who play on their phones. Even though there is undoubtedly a large overlap, it appears that it will be a long time until gamers who play on their phones surpass those who play elsewhere.
Among some of the most popular mobile games today include Call of Duty, Pokemon Go, PUBG, Among Us, Minecraft, Fortnite, Clash of Clans, Clash Roayle, Candy Crush, and many more.
What is very promisiong about this sector of the gaming industry is the revenue it brings in. It is estimated that by the end of 2021, $100 billion will have been egenerated from just games people play on their phones. When one considers the combination of ads, social trading, in-app purchases, and subscriptions, it is no wonder why video games people play on their phone have lead to such high revenue streams.
Another big factor in this being all of the leisure time people spend now on their phones as opposed to reading or being outside away from modern-day technology. With the increase of phone and technological dependence, it will not be too long before video games people can play on their phones becomes the way of the future.
