Video gaming has experienced exponential popularity as a hobby over the last few decades, and influential developers have risen to meet this demand. Some command more prestige and respect, however, than others. Here are the ten strongest video game producers working today.
Rockstar
Rockstar has seen large success over the years with games like the Grand Theft Auto franchise and Red Dead Redemption. They have multiple subsidiary studios, which actually develop individual games, although multiple subsidiary studios have been known to collaborate on projects.
Activision Blizzard
In spite of a string of setbacks, Activision Blizzard remains one of the giants of the gaming community. Blizzard has produced fan-favorite games World of Warcraft, Diablo and Overwatch. On the Activision side, Call of Duty, Guitar Hero and Spyro the Dragon are major franchises.
Valve
As a developer, Valve has released hits such as Half-Life and Portal. But they are one of the strongest and most influential video game companies out there because of Steam, the biggest digital storefront for PC games.
Square Enix
Square Enix is one of the biggest and most influential video game producers in Japan, being responsible for massive franchises such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts. Many of their games have a distinctive art and storytelling style.
Nintendo
Japanese video game developer Nintendo almost single-handedly revitalized the video game industry after the disastrous crash of 1983 and have been going strong ever since. They are most famous for Mario, Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, Animal Crossing and Super Smash Bros., to name a few.
Ubisoft
Ubisoft is a large French developer responsible for the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Just Dance and Tom Clancy series, in addition to many others. They are also making a concentrated effort to branch out into mobile and VR (virtual reality) games.
Epic Games
Epic hit it big with the massive success of Fortnite, but this developer was not content to rest on its laurels. Though not without controversy, they have also launched the Epic Games Store, another digital game storefront that has grown exponentially in a short amount of time.
